A quick search on the internet reveals a huge list of sites claiming to be the one and only guide to web design. Many of them offer advice which is contradictory to other sites that make the same claims. So which should I believe??

The simple answer is: none of them! At least, not entirely. Most of the ones we've seen have a number of good ideas and can offer a good set of basic principles.

When you design a web site (or get someone to design it for you), create something that you like! It's your home on the internet - most people don't look at web sites to learn how to set up their home (OK, Feng Shui is an exception) - they just buy the furniture they like - use the colours that suit them best.

It's the same with web design - if you design a site that you like, you can guarantee that at least one person in the world likes it!
